Chile's Corbo Says `No Evidence' That Peso Is Overvalued

Sept. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Chilean Central Bank President Vittorio Corbo said there's no evidence that the peso is overvalued and that the central bank isn't seeking a target nor a specific level for the exchange rate.

Several issues, such as pay raises adjusted by productivity gains and a strengthening peso are helping the bank keep inflation under control, Corbo said at a news conference at the bank's headquarters in Santiago, the country's capital. A congressional investigation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government may trigger some swings in currencies across South America, Corbo said, adding that the Chilean economy is ready to ``absorb well such a shock.''
